Windows-1257 (Windows Baltic) is a code page used to write Estonian (although that can also be written with Windows-1252), Latvian and Lithuanian languages under Microsoft Windows. It is also possible to write Polish and German using this code page (although this is not normally done) with the added bonus that the German text will be identical to that encoded in Windows-1252. This code page is almost compatible with ISO 8859-13 (they differ in codepoints A1, A5, B4, FF, and of course in the range 80–9F). It is not compatible with the older ISO 8859-4 encoding. UTF-8 is preferred to windows 1257 in modern applications [edit] Code page layoutOnly the upper half (128–255) of the table is shown, the lower half (0–127) being plain ASCII.
