[edit] [John Maynard (MP)]]!

Thank you for all your copy-editing. After a couple of hours wiki-linking the DNB, I am no longer capable of seeing straight. 45ossington (talk) 07:19, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Removal of Potemkin Village Illustration

Awwwww, spoilsport! Quite rightly removed but it has been amusing Aucklanders for the last few days. Mhicaoidh (talk) 08:49, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

Someone got here first -- anyway I left a note on the talk page because it gave a good illustration of an antique facade with nothing behind it, so if it could "stand in" for a lacking real PV, could it just illustrate the point? I thought the contrast with the worksite was pretty cool too. pleez pleez Tagishsimon? Julia Rossi (talk) 09:18, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Thx

I agree about the dubious nature ... however we should not pretend that we are doing anything wrong. I think we should trim it off but its important to note that we are working legally and know it. Victuallers (talk) 16:55, 20 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Salathiel Lovell

I have taken it upon myself to fiddle with some headings etc., but please do feel free to revert if you think the effect unhelpful. With best wishes, 45ossington (talk) 15:09, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Updated DYK query On 23 June 2008, Did you know? was updated with a fact from the article Salathiel Lovell, which you created or substantially expanded. If you know of another interesting fact from a recently created article, then please suggest it on the Did you know? talk page.

[edit] the sort of people in ODNB but under-represented in wikipedia

I've added some thoughts on this to my userpage, if you're interested. Keep up the good work :) Dsp13 (talk) 13:04, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Brown Dog

I noticed that WikiMapia is using your two images of the Brown Dog statue. They were uploaded by an unregistered user and there is no attribution or mention of GFDL. Is this intentional? --Para (talk) 13:40, 24 June 2008 (UTC)

Right, somehow I anticipated that. You could just try a friendly normal message to the listed email. There's no reason for User:Alexandre Koriakine to get difficult with removing clear cut copyright violations that are easy to verify, without needing to enforce US law on the hosting yet. If he does though, a Russian site that uses bits and pieces of some terms and conditions template is unlikely to start assessing the validity of a signature in normal text format when there's no clear legal definition for it. And yes, it's a shame indeed to see the original contributor of an article abandon his work, but no worries, with the ongoing geo project to put all such linked Wikipedia articles through the same treatment, the disputes will be settled eventually when these kinds of articles are but a lone unjustifiable aberration. --Para (talk) 00:53, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Read Your Response on the bulletin board, AND YOU TAKING THINGS TOO SUBTLE

Mr Tagishsimon, you are wrong. The ADL has stated recently that the number of internet activity has increased among white pride groups and that membership of white pride has increase 50% since 2000.Kevin j (talk)

And the connection between that, and adding unsourced information to articles is? --Tagishsimon (talk) 18:12, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

My statements were backed by a reliable source too, UAW's ACTIVIST HALL OF FAME. You NEED TO CHECK THINGS BETTER. Me, I DON'T THINK WE SHOULD TAKE THE MOVEMENT TOO LIGHTLY.Kevin j (talk) 18:13, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

No they were not. Another user meticulously checked your sources, and they did not say what you were saying. Nor, even were they sourced, were they necessary appropriate and needed. And finally, you have not made any case whatsoever that the internet activities of white pride groups necessitate the addition of the information you sought to add. In other news, typing in capitals is no substitute for reasoned debate. Suggest you type in sentence case and try to make a point that goes some way beyond "I'm right & you're wrong". (And did you mean subtle?) --Tagishsimon (talk) 18:17, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

You are not seeing things from a neutral perspective sir. YOU OBVIOUSLY DID NOT READ MY SOURCE AND ARE JUST BELIEVING ANOTHER PERSON'S OPINION. HE DID NOT CHECK MY SOURCE THOUROUGHLY, AND YOU NEED TO MAKE OBSERVATIONS FOR YOURSELF.Kevin j (talk)

Well, that's true. I am believing the chappie who reverted you, based on him citing text from the source and comparing it with your input. Did he commit some dishonesty in doing this. You, for your part, appear to be ducking every issue I've raised, which renders this communication fairly barren. --Tagishsimon (talk) 18:24, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

Sir, YOU ARE STILL BEING SUBTLE. YOU ARE NOT COMPARING ANYTHING TO ANYTHING, BECAUSE YOU HAVEN'T READ MY SOURCE. THAT IS NOT RESPECTING THE GOOD FAITH POLICY OF WIKIPEIDA. I urge you too PLEASE RESPECT MY FACTSKevin j (talk) 18:43, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

I have now had a look at some of your other work - and sources, for instance at Race and Crime. Not impressed. Even where your source is good, you show bad judgment in choosing what to add; and your written english skills leave a very great deal to be desired. Moreover, I've strongly hinted that typing in caps makes you look like a fool. Why do you continue to do so?
The bottom line is this: life is too short to dedicate much more of it to you. You give repeated evidence of having an over-inflated sense of your own rightness and consistently refuse to listen to the merest suggestion that you might not be right. I suggest we agree to differ and leave it at that. I will, meanwhile, revert your edits whenever I think they devalue the encyclopedia. --18:54, 25 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Response to blocked user news

Hi there SIMON, VASCO from PORTUGAL here,

Thank you very much for your note on my talk page. Even tough i am an anonymous user, i try my best and am not set to "get anyone" deliberately. Still, i believe this user (PARARUBBAS) was not contributing with anything positive and this blocking was more than justified.

Have a nice weekend, from Portugal, VASCO AMARAL - --217.129.67.28 (talk) 02:19, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Blocked user PARARUBBAS

Hi there SIMON, VASCO here,

Yes man, i know you did not write to criticize me, all the contrary, i appreciated it sincerely, it was just i felt kind of strange with the whole situation but, like i said in our first WIKI-conversation, blocking in this case was MORE THAN JUSTIFIED.

Cheers again, nice work and WEEKEND, VASCO AMARAL - --217.129.67.28 (talk) 15:32, 11 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] PARARUBBAS does not learn

Hi there SIMON, VASCO here,

I just saw that PARARUBBAS has returned from his 24hr blocking and...Guess what? He came back doing the SAME! I give up, since i don't know how to (and IF i can, given i am anonymous user) block him myself...

The language issue is pretty much clear in my view. He has to be Portuguese, since his edits are 99,999999% of footballers of that country or working in that league. His english is appalling, as confirmed by this edit on JOÃO ALVES (PORTUGUESE FOOTBALLER): http://en.wikipedia.orgindex.php?title=Jo%C3%A3o_Alves&diff=225234333&oldid=224806307

I have left another warning in Portuguese in his talk page...I can clearly see him saying: "Talk to the hand..." What a pity...

Greetings, VASCO AMARAL - --217.129.67.28 (talk) 19:43, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] PARARUBBAS, definitely a pity...

Hi there SIMON, VASCO again, i guess the beast is awake...

Just to let you know this: Mere minutes after i left PARARUBBAS a message (not very polite i admit it, but it's really getting ANNOYING) on his talk page, he proceeded to enter JOÃO ALVES' article (and i notice that he VERY SELDOM enters same article TWICE, sometimes making 4,5 edits for all in one turn) and clicked "UNDO", removing my work, and reinstating his "marvel".

I give up (on this), and am also considering seriously giving up (on WP, what's the point). Even if he gets blocked, maybe he can enter with another IP and do it all again and, even if he can't, THOUSANDS of other PARARUBBAS are lurking...What a shame!!!

I'll wiki-see you, VASCO AMARAL - --217.129.67.28 (talk) 20:12, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bye all

Hi there SIMON, VASCO here again,

Upon writing to WP:ANI about PARARUBBAS, former admin SCEPTRE replied to me, telling me and THE VANDAL to both COOL IT, so...

After 1 year and 9 months (approximately) of ALWAYS TRYING TO HELP AND IMPROVE, without an account (anonymous yes, nothing to hide), i am officially leaving WP (at least as editor), tired of being told to "Cool it", "Your edits constitute vandalism", "Please stop adding defamatory info" (having done NOTHING OF THE SORT), one guy even told me to "Fuck off" if i disagreed with him (user 202.75.80.182)...Oh well...

PARARUBBAS (and other vandals), vandalize away, no more worries with me from now on, i will "cool it"...Permanently. I will leave him a message in Portuguese (i will not insult him, i promise) telling i am leaving, he can do what the hell he wants. Block him, cool, don't block him cool too.

Happy life/wiki-work to the good, the VANDALS you know what i think of you... VASCO AMARAL - --217.129.67.28 (talk) 22:58, 12 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] PARARUBBAS, a doubt emerged...

Hi there SIMON, VASCO here,

Although i am still quite focused on leaving, this doubt has just surfaced my mind: When you consult an article's edit history, you can clearly see that some usernames are highlighted in red, as opposed to the habitual blue, and others have the icon "talk" in the same fashion. For instance, i am anonymous user, but all my options are "in blue", whereas PARARUBBAS' account name is in red.

Can you please explain to me that difference in colours? That could explain his silence, not his vandalism and removals.

Cheers, mate, from PORTUGAL,

VASCO AMARAL - --217.129.67.28 (talk) 18:24, 13 July 2008 (UTC)

Hello. I was reading the ref-desk talk page and I noticed this edit (that I had not seen before) [1] It looks like you have posted two messages at the same time and one is from a User:Lewis.. ? Do you have any idea what is happening here ??

I'd definately appreciate it if you can point me in the right direction - this has totally mistified me. Thanks for your time.87.102.86.73 (talk) 23:16, 20 July 2008 (UTC)

Apologies - it seems the previos edit was oversighted see Wikipedia talk:Reference desk#What happened here - oversight?. Problem now resolved. Sorry for bothering you.87.102.86.73 (talk) 08:59, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tarck bike AfD, again=

Hi there. I noticed you previously nominated Tarck bike for deletion. Although that discussion ultimately led to a decision to merge the article, the merge tag was removed and the article remains. [edit] Invitation to Wikipedia meetup in London

Wikimedia UK logo

Date: 13:00 onwards, Sunday 10 August 2008

Venue: Penderel's Oak pub, Holborn WC1 map

More information: Wikipedia:Meetup/London 12

Hello,

I noticed that you have listed yourself as a Wikipedian in London, so I thought you might like to come to one of our monthly social meetups. The next one is going to be on Sunday 10 August, which might well be rather short notice, but if you can't come this time, we try to have one every second Sunday of the month.

If you haven't been before, these meetups are mainly casual social events for Wikipedia enthusiasts in which we chat about Wikipedia and any other topics we fancy. It's a great way to meet some very keen Wikipedians, but we'd also love for you to come along if you're interested in finding out more about Wikipedia, other Wikimedia projects, or other collaborative wiki projects too.

The location is a pub that is quite quiet and family friendly on a Sunday lunchtime, so hopefully younger Wikipedians will also feel welcome and safe. Alcohol consumption is certainly not required!

Although the meetups are popular, many UK-based editors still don't know about them. It would be great to welcome some fresh faces, so I hope you can come along.

Yours,

James F. (talk) 09:27, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Please forgive the slightly impersonal mass-invite!

[edit] News on PARARUBBAS

HI SIMON, VASCO here,

User BANRAY reverted an edit on PREDRAG JOKANOVIC (seen here http://en.wikipedia.orgindex.php?title=Predrag_Jokanovi%C4%87&diff=227011257&oldid=219503493) by user 92.5.9.102, and i will only say this: this user removed the EXTERNAL LINK, he glued sentences, and his "new contributions" so far consist also of PORTUGUESE FOOTBALL. My guess(es)? He could very well be PARARUBBAS, with a different account, or as a sockpuppet or whatever...BEWARE!!!

I'll catch you later,

VASCO AMARAL - --217.129.67.28 (talk) 01:06, 7 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] WIT(h) Thanks

Hi,

I'd just like to thank you for being calm and for realising that my tagging of the page was in no way an attack. I couldn't find a link to the copyright notice, which was incorrectly worded anyway. This has now been fixed and I thank you for you help and understanding. Verbal chat 13:40, 26 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Troll costumes

I try to take the reference desk questions at face value, but, as they say, while I was born at night, it wasn't last night. Normally I'd leave an obvious eejit alone, but that purported dad of a 12-year-old seemed to merit something that was neither outrage nor obvious derision. As for the edit comment: a little Easter egg I didn't think anyone would look for. — OtherDave (talk) 16:25, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!
