Coordinates: 17°14′N 77°35′E / 17.23, 77.58 Tandur is a city, mandal and a municipality in Rangareddy district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.

Tandur is located at 17°14′N 77°35′E / 17.23, 77.58^[1]. It has an average elevation of 450 metres (1476 feet). Tandur town is 110 Kilo Metres far from Hyderabad City which is the capital city of Andhra Pradesh State.

Tandur was a Picnic spot for Nizams, they used to travel from Gloconda to Tandur via Vikarabad for enjoying the hunting, it use to take 15 days from Golconda to Hyderabad, the same time for return. They use to stay for one week in Tandur and use to go back. currently the old houses area is called as old tandur & the new buildings area called as new tandur. there is a railway track dividing the old & new tandur.

As of 2001 India census^[2], Tandur had a population of 57,943. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Tandur has an average literacy rate of 60%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 67%, and female literacy is 52%. In Tandur, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Tandur is famous for its blue and black stone and toor daal(yellow gram)and Jowar. It has good number of rice millsŤ and Stone industries. Major industries include gemstone exports and cement manufacturing. Two major cement firms are headquartered in Tandur - CCI (Cement Corporation of India) and VCIL (Vishaka Cement Industry Ltd).

A Sri Rama Temple is located at Juntpally, which is a Historic Temple and have some Historic Resemblances in and around the Premisis of the Temple complex, this Historic Temple is 12 kilometres from Tandur.

River Kagna which is a sub river to River Krishna supplies the driniking water for more than 45 villages including Tandur Town, this River is 4 kilometres away from Tandur on the way to Kodangal.

Rasoolpoor Hanuman Temple, which is famous now a days for all, is located 4 kilometres from Tandur.

Tandur had a fame in the Period of Nizam's, The Nizam Rulers used to camp in Tandur in the Passion of hunting and use to stay up to a month or so (Sources-Archives-Hyd).

Tandur has good bakeries, lodgings, restaurants and 7 major theaters with air conditioned for entertainment.
