Tamasha

Tamasha is a traditional folk art form, often with singing and dancing. This is widely performed in Maharashtra, India, often by local or traveling theatre groups.

Traditionally Marathi cinema has involved tamasha and many premier actresses including, Sandhya, Jayshree Gadkar amongst others have played parts/ roles of tamasha artists. Some Hindi movies have also had the "tamasha" songs in the past.

Unfortuntately, over the years tamasha has started to be looked down upon and is today a dying art.

In colloquial Hindi, the term tamasha is used to refer to a commotion, or any activity or display with bustle and excitement, sometimes ironically in the sense of "a tempest in a teacup."
