I was sure they were known as the Springboks in the 1992 World Cup and became the Proteas only in about 1993, though I can't find anything online to support that, nor am I South African.Thedangerouskitchen 10:02, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

True, in the World Cup in 1992, they were still the Springbucks (not Springboks, please!). The South African rugby and cricket teams were officially known as the Springbucks (in English) and the Springbokke (in Afrikaans). It's a misnomer that they were the Springboks. What flag to use on articles, e.g. Reggie Schwarz since there were three flags:

• None 1889 (date of first test) -1910
• 1910-1928
• 1928-1991
• 1991-present

Suggests (to me anyway) that the only reason that the side contains coloured players is because of quota system. This is blatently false. I am not defending quota systems (because I am heavily opposed to them) however the remark seems awefully out of place. Paul Hjul 10:28, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

sorry, don't know how to post this properly, but describing nasser hussain as the "then-english captain" is wrong; the hyphen placement suggests that nasser was english, but is not any longer

AFAIK, Hansie was charged with accepting money and in return to provide match information (e.g. pitch condition) to the bookies, not to lose the match!? --Igitur za 15:27, 3 April 2007 (UTC)

"England eventually won the match and the series, but the decision was applauded for increasing the chance of a result, instead of a draw." England won the test, but not the series... England's first Test victory in post-Ap South Africa came under Vaughan.

"This game is considered by many to be the greatest One-Day International ever played." The 1999 world cup semifinal is more commonly considered the greatest game of all time. While people may debate whether the 2006 run fest versus a game full of twists and turns is more watchable, the world cup match was clearly much more important, both in terms of the value of the tournament, and on the subsequent pyschological damage inflicted on the SA team (referred to earlier in the article". I think the mentioning the word 'chokers' in the introductory paragraph of this article an objective point of view borders on slander. Many great sporting teams have been branded as chokers at some point or another.

The chokers reference should be altogether removed from this article.

The SA cricket side is not a great sporting team. Five of the eight major cricket playing countries have won the world cup, a sixth (England) has contested 3 finals. Only New Zealand and SA have failed to progress to a world cup final. Which makes the label best team to have never won the world cup a little silly. Unlike NZ, SA have continoulsy self imploded, and like it or not they wear the 'chokers' tag - spend a little time at cricinfo if you believe this is undeserved .
