Pyotr Sergeyevich Novikov (Russian: Пётр Сергеевич Новиков) (August 15, 1901 – January 9, 1975) was a Russian mathematician who was born in Moscow, Russia and died in Moscow, Russia. He is known for his work on combinatorial problems in group theory: the word problem for groups, and the Burnside problem. In 1953 he became a corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Sciences and in 1960 he was elected a full member. The mathematician Sergei Petrovich Novikov is his son.
