Perm State University (Russian: Пермский государственный университет им. А.М.Горького, romanised: Permskiy gosudarstvennyy universitet imeni A.M.Gorkogo, often abbreviated ПГУ, PSU, PGU) is one of the main universities in Russia. Founded in 1916, it claims to be the oldest university in Ural and eastern territories of Russia. Its current rector is Vladimir Malanin.
[edit] HistoryThe Perm State University was founded on October 14, 1916. Firstly, there was opened a branch of St. Petersburg University in the city of Perm.This decision of the russian government was in tune with the strategy of cultural and geopolitical development of Urals economical region. The idea of a higher aducational center in the Urals was found argent suppport of D.I.Mendeleev, A.S.Popov, D.N.Mamin-Sibiryak, A.G.Denisov-Uralsky and other outstanding public figures.
