Myaungmya (Burmese: မြောင်းများ) is a town in Myaungmya Township in the Ayeyarwady Division, Myanmar. Myaungmya is a very important town in Burmese modern history. It is where U Nu, the first premier of independent Burma was born. It was also one of the towns where anti-colonial nationalistic education was implemented, with U Nu serving as district education officer. History It was formed in 1893 out of a portion of Bassein district, and reconstituted until 1903. It has an area of 2663 square miles and a population of 280,000 and density of 104 inhabitants to the square mile.. The district is a deltaic tract, bordering south on the sea and traversed by many tidal creeks. Rice cultivation and fishing occupy practically all the inhabitants of the district.
