Various indigenous Australian cultures consider the reference of deceased persons - whether in name or in image - to be taboo. In such cases there may be a special word (such as "Kumantjayi" (pronounced [kumeɲcai]), used by the Warlpiri) which will be used to refer to the deceased instead of their name.
