Kurukshetra University (Hindi: कुरुक्षेत्र विश्वविद्यालय) was established in 1956 as a Unitary Residential University and its foundation stone was laid by late Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India.
Located in the city of [[Kurukshetra, its campus is situated on the western bank of Brahma Sarovar (the holy tank) and extends over an area of over 400 acres (1.6 km2) of land and is situated at a distance of about 4 km. from Kurukshetra Railway Station and about 8 km. from Pipli, a well known road junction on National Highway No.1 (Sher Shah Suri Marg).
Starting with only the Department of Sanskrit, it has grown into a multi-faculty University . Adjacent to Kurukshetra university campus is National Institute of Technology, Kurukshetra campus formerly known as Regional Engineering College, Kurukshetra.
