Carlo Gaetano Gaisruck was the archbishop of Milan from 1816 to 1846.[1] Gaisruck was born on the seventh of August in 1769 in Austria.[2] He was elected the canon of the Cathedral chapter of Passau in September of 1788.[3] In 1800 he was ordained a Catholic priest. The next year he became the auxiliary bishop of Passau, thus gaining the title of Bishop of Derbe.[4] He received a doctorate in liberal arts and philosophy from the University of Salzburg.[5] In 1818 he became archbishop of Milan. On September 27th, 1824 he was created a Cardinal. In the 1846 conclave, he was to present the veto of the Emperor of Austria against the election of Cardinal Mastai-Ferretti, but arrived too late; the latter had already been elected and taken the name Pius IX. Cardinal Gaisruck died on the 19th of November, 1846. [edit] Sources
