Howard Air Force Base (IATA: BLB, ICAO: MPHO) was one of two main United States Air Force Bases located in the country of Panama, the other being Albrook Air Force Base. It was located on the west side of the Panama Canal, adjacent to Rodman Naval Station and Fort Kobbe. Most of the area around it was uninhabited (part of the Panama Canal Zone watershed), though Panama City could be reached by crossing the nearby Bridge of the Americas. In 2000, it was decommissioned and control was turned over to the Republic of Panama. In February 2008, the production for the James Bond movie Quantum of Solace used the base to double for an airport in Bolivia. Since being turned over to Panama, much of the base is used to house call centers for technology companies, most notably Dell Computer. [edit] References
