Figueres (Spanish: Figueras) is the capital of the comarca (district) of Alt Empordà, in the province of Girona, Catalonia, Spain.
The town is the birthplace of artist Salvador Dalí, and houses the Teatre-Museu Gala Salvador Dalí, a large museum designed by Dalí himself which attracts many visitors. It is also the birthplace of Narcís Monturiol i Estarriol, inventor of the first combustion powered submarine and anaerobic engine.
The city is twinned with Perpignan (Pyrénées Orientales), just over the Pyrenees in France.

Situated in the north-east corner of Catalonia, Figueres is about 40 km far from Girona, 140 km from Barcelona, 60 km from Perpignan and 50 km far from Girona-Costa Brava Airport.
The projected high-speed rail lines connecting Figueres to Perpignan via LGV and to Madrid-Barcelona via AVE are scheduled to begin service in 2009 and 2012.
