Dy Saveth (1944-) is a renowned Cambodian actress. In 1959 she won the Cambodian beauty pageant competition and became the first Miss Cambodia. She starred in many Cambodian films during the 1960s, including Pous Keng Kong (Snake Girl), Velveng Na Borng and Crepuscule (Twilight), directed by and starring Norodom Sihanouk and Huoy Keng. However by 1967, Vichara Dany had entered the scene and gained the national spotlight. Dy Saveth nevertheless continued to be featured in a few movies up until the communist takeover in 1975. She was married to Huoy Keng, an actor, producer and film director during the 1970s. Just as Van Vanak ran his own production company, Huoy Keng and Dy Saveth jointly ran Sovann Kiry. After the Khmer Rouge came to power in 1975, Huoy Keng escaped to Hong Kong where he continued his film business there and became one of Hong Kong's millionaires. Dy Saveth fled Cambodia in 1975 as the Khmer Rouge came to power and settled in France. In recent years, she has returned to Cambodia, where she teaches at Royal University of Phnom Penh. She has also began acting in films again. Her more recent works have included Bopha Angkor, a co-production with a Thai film company and cast, and the all-Cambodian production, The Crocodile.
