[edit] Early Life

Cashman grew up in Lexington, Kentucky. His father raised standard-bred horses for harness racing. He attended Lexington Catholic High School before moving to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area. He graduated from Georgetown Preparatory School in 1985 and The Catholic University of America in 1989.

[edit] New York Yankees

He started with the New York Yankees organization as an intern. In February 1998, he was named Senior Vice-President and General Manager. His predecessor was Bob Watson.

During his tenure the Yankees have won five American League pennants and three World Series championships. Despite the team's success, in 2005 Cashman considered leaving the Yankees due to conflicts with owner George Steinbrenner and organizational disputes between team officials in New York City and Tampa. [1] The Washington Nationals were rumored to be interested in hiring Cashman, which would have brought him back to the city where he attended school. Instead, Cashman agreed to a new contract following the conclusion of the 2005 season which gave him more authority in personnel decisions. As a result in this, Cashman earned an average 1.3 million more the following three years.[2]

Cashman's contract was to expire after the 2008 season. "Concerning my situation, I am completely focused on getting this team where it needs to be," Cashman told The New York Times. [3] On September 30, 2008, he signed a 3 year contract to stay with the New York Yankees.[citation needed]

Cashman was named to Crain's New York Business 40 under 40 list for 1999.[4]

Cashman was also involved in the developing the video game MLB Front Office Manager.[5]

[edit] Personal life

He currently lives in Darien, Connecticut with his family.[6]
