Boyle County is a county located in the U.S. state of Kentucky. It was formed in 1842. As of 2000, the population was 27,697. Its estimated population as of 2007 was 28,664. Its county seat is Danville.[1] The county is named for John Boyle (1774-1835), Congressman, Chief Justice of the Kentucky Court of Appeals, U.S. District Judge. The county is part of the Danville Micropolitan Statistical Area.

[edit] HistoryBoyle County was formed on February 15, 1842 from sections of Lincoln County and Mercer County. It is named for John Boyle, Congressman, Chief Justice of the Kentucky Court of Appeals, and U.S. District Judge. During the American Civil War, the Battle of Perryville took place here on October 8, 1862, fought between the Confederate Army of the Mississippi and the Union Army of the Ohio. 7407 men fell in the battle. There were 10,574 households out of which 31.00% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.70% were married couples living together, 12.50% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.50% were non-families. 27.10% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.10% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.87. In the county the population was spread out with 22.70% under the age of 18, 11.00% from 18 to 24, 28.60% from 25 to 44, 23.70% from 45 to 64, and 14.10% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 98.30 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 96.00 males. The median income for a household in the county was $35,241, and the median income for a family was $42,699. Males had a median income of $33,411 versus $23,635 for females. The per capita income for the county was $18,288. About 9.10% of families and 11.90% of the population were below the poverty line, including 15.80% of those under age 18 and 12.10% of those age 65 or over. [edit] Cities and towns[edit] References
