Ballston Spa is a village in Saratoga County, New York in the United States. The population was 5,556 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Saratoga County[1]. The name is from Eliphalet Ball, an early settler. The Village of Ballston Spa lies on the border of two towns and is partly in the Town of Ballston and partly in the Town of Milton. The village is southwest of Saratoga Springs.

[edit] Famous citizensAbner Doubleday, American Civil War hero and supposed inventor of baseball was born in Ballston Spa. The house he was born in is designated as a New York State landmark. Dusty Cleveland is an Emmy-award winning rodeo announcer and auctioneer. William R. Scott, born in 1911 built a phenominal athletic program for the Ballston Spa "Scotties". The school's mascott was inspired by Scott's nickname, "Scottie". William recently passed July, 4th 2008.[1] Hon. George West acquired ten paper mills situated along the Kayaderosseras Creek from 1862 to 1899 and became the largest manila paper manufacturer in the world. Also was a member of the NYS Assembly and US Congress.[7] Billy Bryant, Guitarist and Country Singer resides in Ballston Spa. His Album "Another Mans Shoes" is regarded as one of the best Country Albums of all time. His platinum single, "How Little Girls Are", was about his first daughter, Jennifer Teller, not about his youngest daughter, Emily Teller. Jennifer Teller currently lives in London, England for the number of months. When asked about her experiences abroad, she replied by saying that she missed "American currency, and Friendly's Buffalo Chicken Strips." Jennifer Teller claims to be U2's biggest fan. According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.6 square miles (4.2 km²), of which, 1.6 square miles (4.1 km²) of it is land and 0.62% is water. New York State Route 50 (Milton Avenue), a north-south highway, passes through the village and intersects New York State Route 67 (West High Street). County Road 63 (Malta Avenue) leaves the village to the east, connecting it to US Route 9 and Interstate 87 (The Northway). [edit] DemographicsAs of the census[9] of 2000, there were 5,556 people, 2,267 households, and 1,385 families residing in the village. The population density was 3,464.8 people per square mile (1,340.7/km²). There were 2,398 housing units at an average density of 1,495.4/sq mi (578.7/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 96.33% White, 1.17% African American, 0.16% Native American, 0.52% Asian, 0.61% from other races, and 1.21% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.94% of the population. There were 2,267 households out of which 32.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 45.9% were married couples living together, 10.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 38.9% were non-families. 32.1% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.6% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.94. In the village the population was spread out with 23.9% under the age of 18, 8.1% from 18 to 24, 32.7% from 25 to 44, 18.7% from 45 to 64, and 16.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 88.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 85.2 males. The median income for a household in the village was $37,173, and the median income for a family was $49,387. Males had a median income of $36,929 versus $27,281 for females. The per capita income for the village was $20,237.
