Astronaut Group 5

El directorio enciclopédico desde la Wikipedia.

NASA's Astronaut Group 5 (the 'Original 19') selected by NASA in April 1966. Of the Lunar Module Pilots that walked on the Moon, half came from Group 5. The group as a whole is roughly split between the half who flew to the Moon and the other half who flew Skylab and Shuttle, providing the core of Shuttle Commanders early in that program. (Only one member who flew during Apollo accomplished any subsequent space missions.) This group is also distinctive in being the only time when NASA hired a person into the JSC astronaut corps who had already earned astronaut wings, X-15 pilot Joe Engle.

A chart showing Group 5 assignments in relation to other astronaut groups. Graphed this way, it clearly shows how Group 5 military pilots were assigned ahead of Group 4, with most of Group 4 required to spend a full year at UPT to get qualified as jet pilots, which all of Group 5 (and Groups 1-3) had done early in their military careers).

ASTP, STS-5, STS-41-B, STS-35
CMP, first joint U.S./U.S.S.R mission; Commander, first operational Space Shuttle flight
Trained as Lunar Module Pilot. Resigned from the astronaut corps after learning that he was suffering from pulmonary disease.
Skylab 4
Trained as Lunar Module Pilot. Later he was Commander of Skylab 4
Apollo 16
Lunar Module Pilot, fifth manned lunar landing. Tenth man to walk on the moon.
ALT, STS-2 and STS-51-I.
As the backup Lunar Module Pilot for Apollo 14, he was expected to be selected as the LMP for Apollo 17, but was replaced by geologist Harrison Schmitt after Apollo 18 had been cancelled. Engle was the only shuttle pilot who had prior hypersonic flight experience, having earned his astronaut wings flying the X-15 rocket plane.
Apollo 17
Command Module Pilot, last manned lunar landing
Killed in automobile accident in 1967 after serving on the Apollo 7 support crew.
Apollo 13, ALT
Lunar Module Pilot, aborted lunar landing. Commanded the prototype space shuttle during testing. Was to command the original STS-2 flight to rescue Skylab in 1979.
Apollo 15
Lunar Module Pilot, fourth manned lunar landing. Eighth man to walk on the moon.
STS-51-B
Physicist. Most sources indicate he was a candidate as Lunar Module Pilot of the cancelled Apollo 21. Selected in 1973 to fly on Skylab Rescue if necessary; the mission was never flown. First mission in 1985, having waited 19 years, longer than any other American astronaut.
Skylab 3 and STS-3
Early he trained as Lunar Module Pilot for the cancelled Apollo 20. Later he was selected as Command Module Pilot for Skylab 3.
Apollo 16, STS-4, STS-51-C
Command Module Pilot, fifth manned lunar landing. Flew on Apollo 16. Was the original Command Module Pilot for Apollo 13, but was grounded due to exposure to rubella, in which was not immune to. Also flew on the space shuttle twice as commander.
STS-41-B, STS-35
First untethered EVA. Also flew on Hubble Space Telescope deployment flight.
Apollo 14
Lunar Module Pilot, third manned lunar landing. Sixth man to walk on the moon.
Skylab 4
Apollo 14
Command Module Pilot, third manned lunar landing. Back Up Pilot for Apollo 16 and Apollo 17
Apollo 13
Command Module Pilot, aborted lunar landing. In tended as CMP on ASTP but was replaced by Vance Brand
Skylab 2, STS-6
Apollo 15
Command Module Pilot, fourth manned lunar landing.
