  • — The Goths, commanded by their king Cniva, cross the Danubian frontier near Oescus, they are repelled from Novae by the city governor forces and from Nicopolis ad Istrum by the Imperial forces of Decius. Finnaly they capture Philippopolis where they overwinter.
  • — Decius names Augustus his two sons Hostilian and Herennius.

• • — The Gothic forces of Cniva and the Roman Imperial forces of Emperor Decius clash in the Battle of Abrittus, where the Romans are strongly defeated and their Emperor killed in combat.
  • — With the death of Decius, the Legions proclaim Emperor Trebonianus Gallus, governor of Moesia, who adopts Hostilian as his son and co-emperor.
  • — As Hostilian dies of plague in Rome, Trebonianus Gallus names his son Volusianus as co-emperor.

  • — Aemilianus forces win over Trebonianus Gallus near Interamna. After the defeat, they are killed by their own soldiers.
  • — The huge Rhine army, marching to Italy to help Trebonianus Gallus, proclaims Valerian emperor. Aemilianus is than killed by his fellow soldiers.
  • — Valerian reconstitues the Legio III Augusta, locating its headquarters in Lambaesis to face the Berbers tribes that have been ravaging the North African provinces.
